Piecing

Red -Winged Blackbird

I created this design for a Red-winged Blackbird assuming that that there would be divisions at the neck and the tail.

What if I break it into its main sections?

I don't see anything that I think I will have trouble piecing.

What if I look at it without the seam lines showing?

I see a strong vertical line that runs past the edge of the beak, then past the wing patch and tries to meet the reed that the bird is perched on.

What if I redesign the piecing based on this vertical line?

What if I break it into its main sections?

This has  fewer pieces. It will be slightly easier to sew.

What if I look at it without the seam lines showing?

The difference between the two versions is subtle. I am happy with either one.
