From My Pieced Alphabet:

Hawkwood

The letter p is constructed on an 8 x 12 grid. The diagonal strokes are prominent and give this alphabet its character.

The vertical stroke is 1 1/2 units wide. If it were 1 unit wide, it would look thin compared to the diagonal strokes. if it were 2 units wide, it would look thick.

The piecing for the p is relatively simple; but it does require some precision so that the inside corners line up properly.

In this test word all the letters are spaced 1 1/2 units apart. The i and n look okay, but the p and e seem to be distancing themseves from the word.

When the p and e are moved in 1/2 unit the word feels properly spaced.
