This Checkerboard placemat could use some quilting.

What if I add a diagonal wavy line to the purple squares?

This is a good start but it's not enough.

What if I add diagonal wavy lines going the other way?

Often with a checkerboard the first thing that comes to mind is the quick and easy solution of quilting straight diagonals. This is a simple variation of that idea but it is more interesting because it has more variety.
