Playing with Quilting
Log Cabin
I want to experiment with some quilting on this Log Cabin block.
What if I try This?
What if I just repeat the log cabin blocks?
Hmm? I don't really know what I think of this.
It's very repetitive but at the same time it has a loose easy feel to it.
What if I arrange the blocks so that they form bands?
This is very textural but it does nothing to emphasize the bands.
What if I arrange the blocks to form diamonds?
The pattern inside the diamonds, looked at one way, is very pointy; it makes me think of thorns or saws. Looked at another way it is like four sets of fingers and is very rounded.
I still can't decide if I like this or not. How would I use it? How could I improve it? If anybody has any thoughts, positive or negative, I could use the feedback.

On this one, I think that the lines of the quilting are too much like the lines of the piecing. Sorry, I have no ideas for a solution except to get rid of so many parallel lines?

ReplyDeleteInteresting comment. I haven't given much thought to the relationship between the lines of the piecing and the lines of the quilting. Except, of course, when I'm going to stitch in the ditch. I've been thinking in terms of either complementing or adding to the pattern. Emphasizing the piecing might prove be an interesting third alternative.
