Playing with Blocks
Balkan Puzzle
This is a Balkan Puzzle block. If you look at it closely, it is obvious that it can be made from 4 identical units. I want to experiment with the basic unit.
The basic unit for Balkan Puzzle is a square and like every square it has 4 corners.
For the Balkan Puzzle block the 4 units are rotated so that the white corner is always in the center.
What if the blue corner is used as the center of a block?
What if one of the green corners is used as the center of a block?
What if the other green corner is used as the center of a block?
The result is 3 new blocks. At least they are new to me. Because they all look like such obvious blocks to try, I am guessing that there's a good chance somebody somewhere has already used these blocks and given them names. If you've seen any one of these before and can put a name to it let me know.
Whether these are new blocks or not, the most interesting thing to me is that it is possible to take a block, such as Balkan Puzzle, disassemble it, then reassemble it to make a different block. If you are looking for an easy way to discover new blocks, this is it.
