Quilting
Wonky Birds in the Air
This Wonky Birds in the Air quilt design is from my 3 October post.
Today I'm going to dress it up with some quilting.
(You may want to click on the images below in order to see the quilting better)
What if I outline the central shape with a dark brown thread and outline the framing shape with a medium brown thread?
I love it; but I still have a lot to do.
What if I stipple the large areas with a pale brown thread?
I say stipple but there are any number of different filler designs that could be used instead.
What if I use quilting in the central image to emphasize the curves?
This might work better with a lighter thread. The dark brown I'm using makes a busy design even busier.
What if I mimic the triangles of the block design?
I'll use dark brown thread in the central design and the border, and medium brown in the framing design. And I'll stitch outside the ditch because that's easy to do.
I'll tidy up by adding a few more triangles here and there, and by stippling more of the background.
I think that the quilting enhances and compliments the pieced design. I am very pleased with the result.

ReplyDeleteI hope I make this one too.
Not much quilting gets done in the summer, the weather's too nice. Winter is the time I do my quilting.
Wayne I love this quilt. Will you make it for real?
ReplyDeleteWow! The quilting choices so compliment the piecing design. I really like this quilt!

ReplyDeleteIt's on the list for this winter.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea of quilting and piecing working together to create something that is geater than either one alone. Some of that is happening in this quilt.
