What If You Combine
Faux Drunkard's Path Blocks
With Snowball Blocks?
There's more than one way to skin a cat; and there's more than one way to create quilt designs. I have no idea why you would want to skin a cat. But I know a lot of good reasons to design quilts. My favorite is - because it's fun.
Tracy was looking at my 26 December 2010 post, where I create designs combining Drunkard's Path and Snowball blocks, when she thought of another way to do the same thing.
What if the Drunkard's Path block was made the same way as the Snowball block? What if the Drunkard's Path blocks was made using straight lines instead of curves?
The result is a Faux Drunkard's Path block. I decided to take this new block for a test drive and create some designs using it and a Snowball block.
The Faux Drunkard's Path Block is easier to sew than the original because there are no curved seams, but it can still be used in all the same settings.
For other 2 block combinations go to My Posts by Subject in the sidebar on the right and click on Mixed Blocks.
I am so amazed that you use paint for your designing. I am having a heck of a time putting in a "traditional block pieced quilt".

Thanks for exploring this idea a bit further - I came up with one layout that I really like (in Webshots album here). It looks like I've taken a bit bigger 'bite' from my one-cornered snowballs.
ReplyDeleteBut you have again inspired me - and I'm amazed at how quickly you seem to be able to produce new and innovative designs!

ReplyDeleteI think your layout is terrific. I wish I'd thought of it.
I find designing relatively easy because I've been doing it for a while. But also because I don't start with a specific goal in mind.
It's kind of like going to the bus station and jumping on any bus that comes along. Eventually you end up somewhere - be it New York, or Montreal, or Mexico City. But if you decide in advance that you want to be in Singapore by Friday, that takes a lot more thought and effort to accomplish.

ReplyDeleteI use Paint because I'm not sophisticated enough to use anything else.
It probably means that there are easier ways to do things. And it definitely limits what I can do. But it doesn't stop me from getting something done.
That was a compliment for using paint. Sorry it didn't come out that way. I think it is amazing that you are able to use paint. I can't get it to work as easily as you do, and I wish I could because my EQ computer is still not running. It takes a lot of sophistication to use Paint. I wish I knew how to use it as well as you do.. sorry the previous comment didn't come out the way I wanted, and that is.. I admire you for being able to do what you do, especially by doing it by using that program. Amazing!
