You Can Make The Same Block
In Different Sizes
And Then Design With It
What if You take a Classic block like Clay's Choice...
..and make it three different sizes? Perhaps, 8"x8", 6"x6" and 4"x4".
And then play with it.
Using the same block in different sizes in the same quilt gives you variety of scale and makes the quilt more interesting.
Wayne,
ReplyDeleteThe first and last designs are wonderful ... partly because of colour choice, but the way the blocks are used is just stunning!

ReplyDeleteColor is the first thing anyone sees in a quilt. It is the most important factor in determining whether someone likes a quilt.
The first design and the next-to-last design are the same with the colors changed to confuse the innocent. Like wise, the last design and the next-to-next-to last (blue and pink) are the same but they are wearing different colors.
I often wonder when someone praises a design if they don't just mean they like the colors.
I like all these and thank you for sharing this exercise with us. I agree and disagree with your statement on color. I think it's also value. I found the purple version with its strong value contrast and almost neon effect much less appealing even though I prefer purple to green. The purple one annoyed me.
