This Block
Makes This Quilt
The block is Maple Leaf. It is a tradition ninepatch block. It is not at all complicated and is very easy to sew
If you sew a Maple Leaf block and then cut it in quarters, you get four Quarter of Nine blocks.
All four of the Quarter of Nine blocks are different.
And you can reassemble them any way you like.
I chose to reassemble them like this:
Four of the reassembled Quarter of Nine blocks can be sewn together to make a new and larger block. Six of the larger block can be sewn together to make the quilt shown above.
Of course you can reassemble the Quarter of Nine blocks many different ways. And you can color the Maple Leaf block different ways as well.
Here are a couple more examples:
I know you've heard this before, and that it is a tired old cliche, but it just happens to be true: The possibilities are endless.

Great idea! Now how to figure out how to English paper piece this all.

ReplyDeleteI'm not terribly fond of paper piecing, but it can be done.
Draw the Maple Leaf block. Cut it in four. Then cut the individual small pieces from the four larger ones. That will give you your templates for English paper piecing.
This pattern is gorgeous!! I love it!!

ReplyDeleteThe nice thing about this pattern is that it is simple. The quilt looks complicated but the Maple leaf block that it's based on is just squares and half-square triangles.
