Vary Subject Matter
To Create Interest
Yesterday's post featured 6 beer bottles. Today's post features 6 beer bottles. But today's post is more interesting because it includes mice and lettering as well.
Variety makes a quilt more interesting. There are a lot of ways to add variety to a quilt; varying subject matter is just one.
In the image above the mice are animate living things, the bottles are inanimate objects and the letters are abstract symbols.
In a quilt you might want to combine pieced blocks with applique flowers or silhouettes. Or you might combine flowers against a fence with mountains in the background. You might want to do an abstract art quilts and include a pictorial element such as a candelabra.
When you add diverse elements to a quilt your mind starts to make new connections and invent stories. That results in the quilt being more interesting and more memorable.
