A Disappearing Nine Patch quilt is made by cutting Nine Patch blocks into quarters and then reassembling them in different ways. The 12 blocks shown below can be used instead of a Nine Patch block to make even more interesting Disappearing block quilts.

LARGE 1/2 SQUARE TRIANGLES
Cut 5" x 5" squares
One for each color
Place squares right sides together
Draw a line from corner to corner
Sew a 1/4" seam on either side of the line
Cut along the drawn line
Press seams open to form 1/2 square triangles
Trim to 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"
HOUR GLASS SQUARE
Cut a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" colored square
Cut a different 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" colored square
Place a background square and a colored square right sides together
Draw a line from corner to corner
Sew a 1/4" seam on either side of the line
Cut along the drawn line
Press seams open to form 1/2 square triangles
Trim to 5" x 5"
Place 2 different colored squares right sides together
with seams lined up
And with color on top of background
Sew a 1/4' seam on either side of the line
Cut along the drawn line
Press seams open
Trim to 41/2" x 4 1/2"
SMALL 1/2 SQUARE TRIANGLES
Cut 2 squares 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"
Place them right sides together
Draw a diagonal from corner to corner
Sew on or just beside the line as shown
Trim a 1/4" seam allowance
Press seams open to form a 1/2 square triangle
CONNECTOR CORNERS
Place small square on the corner of the large square right sides together
Draw a diagonal from corner to corner
Sew on or just beside the line as shown
Trim a 1/4" seam allowance
Press seams open to form a 1/2 square triangle in the corner
