Borders

Sawtooth Star

This quilt top was designed using blocks derived from a Sawtooth Star block. (See my 24, 26 & 28 October 2010 posts.)

Today I'm looking for borders for it.

Borders

King's Crown

I developed the original idea for this quilt top in my 15 December 2009 post. Then on 15 August 2010 I added sashing to it. Now I'm going to add a border.

Blocks

Sawtooth Star

Two days ago (24 October 2010) I pointed out that a Sawtooth Star block can be made from a simple unit that is repeated 4 times.
I then played with that simple unit. I put 4 of them together in several different ways to create a series of new blocks.

Today I am going to treat those new blocks as if they were units and put them together 4 at a time to create super-blocks.

Applique

Tear Drop Flower Quilt

I used this applique flower design on 30 September 2010 to create several designs.

Today I want to explore using some of those designs in quilt tops.

Colors

Ohio Star & Sawtooth Star

When I designed this on 17 October 2010, I was pleased. Looking at it now I can see it needs more punch. So I'm going to play with the colors.

Medallion Quilt

Log Cabin

Yesterday I was playing with this Hexagonal Log Cabin block.  Today I want to use it to make the center of a Medallion quilt.
What if I arrange 6 Hexagonal Log Cabin blocks like this?

I have the center for my Medallion quilt.

Colors

Hexagonal Log Cabin

In my 15 October 2010 post I came up with this Hexagonal Log cabin block and block design.

I want to play with the color and with the design.

Wonky Balkan Puzzle

This 20" block is derived from a Wonky Balkan Puzzle block and comes to us direct from my 7 October 2010 post.

What if I try coloring it differently?

Paired Blocks #1

Ohio Star & Sawtooth Star

Ohio Star and Sawtooth Star are two very similar blocks.

What if I use them both together in a quilt top?

Medallion Quilt

Sawtooth Star

I tried designing medallion quilts for the first time in my 14 October 2010 post. I've decided that the centers need to be stronger; they need to be the focus of attention. I'm going to try again today and see if I can achieve that using a Sawtooth Star block.

Hexagonal Blocks

Log Cabin

What if I play with this Hexagonal Log Cabin block? Can I come up with any interesting design elements?

Medallion Quilt

Rolling Stone

The last 2 days I've been designing borders. Yesterday Judy suggested I might want to turn those borders into medallion quilts. I've never tried to design a medallion quilt. It seems like a good idea.

Borders

Rolling Stone

Yesterday I discovered that I could make interesting borders with a Sawtooth Star block even though I had trouble using it to create quilt top designs.

I have trouble using a Rolling Stone block to create designs as well. What if I try making borders with it?

Borders

Sawtooth Star

I was trying to see what sort of quilt tops I could create by changing the colors in a Sawtooth Star. My first few attempts were better suited to quilt borders. So I decided to go with the flow and see what sort borders I could create by changing colors.

Lake Bonavista

Usually lettering is straight up and down. But there are times when slanted lettering works best. So I designed Lake Bonavista.

Wonky Block

Jacob's Ladder

I had so much fun playing with the wonky Jacob's Ladder block in my 10 September 2010 post that I thought I would see what sort of designs I could find using both it and the regular Jacob's Ladder block together.

Which-a-ma-call-it Quilt

I want to design a quilt using which-a-ma-call-its from my 2 October 2010 post.

Wonky Balkan Puzzle

This is one of the 20" blocks that I derived from a Wonky Balkan Puzzle block yesterday.

What if I try changing the colors?

Wonky Block

Balkan Puzzle

If I change the grid on an 8" Balkan Puzzle block, I get a 10" Wonky Balkan Puzzle block.

Sashing

Balkan Puzzle

I'll start with a Balkan Puzzle block and I'll color it using purples.
What if I repeat the Balkan Puzzle block leaving room for sashing?
