Paired Blocks #16

What Else Can You Do

With A Drunkard's Path Block

It's easy to think that Drunkard's Path blocks can be used for only one purpose - to make Drunkard's Path quilts. But you can take a Drunkard's Path block and use it in combination with other blocks to make a variety of different quilts.

What if a Drunkard's Path block is combined with an Ohio Star block?
This is one possibile design combination.
It's more interesting with a little color added.
Actually, in the design the blocks overlap. When you sew this, the Ohio Star blocks end up being, not blocks, but sashing that goes around the Drunkard's Path blocks.

Despite this, it is the Ohio Star blocks that end up being featured in the finished design and the Drunkard's Path blocks are secondary.
When the design is repeated it leaves lots of room for some creative quilting.

  1. I'm not normally a lover of Drunkard's Path, but your quilt that evolved is quite beautiful!

The Drunkard's Path block is used sparingly in this design; maybe that explains why you are okay with it.
