Quilting

Circles Placemat

This placemat design comes from my 20 August 2010 post.

I want to experiment with ways of quilting it.

What if I start by trying different quilted backgrounds?

What if I try different ways of quilting the flowers?

I like the last version of the flowers best. What if I try it with each of the backgrounds?

I'm not sure which of the 3 combinations I like best. I am leaning toward the first one. But is it the best or not? Or is there something better?

  1. Wayne,

Are all the circles an indication of how life is at the moment .... or just fun? They look like lots of fun tome!

I would use the second quilting design for the flowers with the first background. And probably get giddy in the process!

  2. I like the last quilted flower center the best too; but what if you used uneven horizontal or vertical lines for the background? Would it be more pleasing to the eye than the circles?

It's true that this design revolves around circles. The thought of sewing so many of them is a dizzying one.

I think a small placemat like this would be ideal for anyone who wants to practice sewing circles.

I like your idea of uneven vertical lines for the background. They would be easier to sew that the straight regular diagonal ones I showed. And they would contrast nicely with the circular motif.

I wish I'd thought of it.
