Simple Block #9 Version 2

I designed this simple block and I want to see what can be done with it.

By combining four of my block I can make this larger block. Now the question is what can I do with this?

Simple Block #9

I think you can agree this block is simple. Not hard to sew, but not much to look at either.

What if I combine 4 of my simple block to make a larger block? It's still easy to sew but more interesting visually.

Paired Blocks: Nine Patch & Monday

The block on the left I originally called simple block #8. Not the most memorable name. So I decided to change it to Monday.

I decided to play with Monday and Nine Patch to see what sort of designs I could discover.

Quilt from a Simple Block

In my last post I used a simple block to design this quilt top. My wife wants to make the quilt and asked me to produce a pattern for her. I thought I would work it out online and show you how I go about turning a promising design into an pattern.

Here are 4 ways I came up with for using this block:

Simple Block # 5

Start with two simple units - a split square and a half-square triangle.

Combine them to make a simple block.

Now comes the fun. Play with the block. Color it different ways. Combine it in a variety of settings

Simple Block #4

A four patch and a split square are both very simple units.

Using 2 of each I designed this simple block.

The question is: what can I do with it?

Simple Block #3

I think you'll agree that a half square triangle and a 4 patch unit are both very simple to sew.

I'll use these 2 simple units to make this simple block.

Then I'll use this simple block to explore some quilt designs.

Simple Block #2

In my last post I used these 2 simple units to make a simple block.

I'm using them again to make another simple block.

Here's what happens when I play with this new block:

Simple Block

I am using these two simple units (a half square triangle and a split square)....
... to make this simple block that looks like an 'S'.

When I play with this block here's what I get:
