Checkerboard Placemat

This checkerboard placemat needs to be livened up with some quilting.

What if I add a diagonal wavy line to the dark green squares?

This is agood start but it is not enough.

What if I add matching wavy lines in the light green squares?

This is better.  What else can I do?

What if I add another pair of wavy lines going in the other direction?

This is the result and I like it.  The two sets of wavy lines combine to form a totally unexpected pattern.
