Applique
Swoosh Quilt
I was looking through some of my old posts and I found this placemat from 3 August 2010.
It is made by appliqueing simple swoosh shapes. Each one is about 1 1/2" x 2 3/4".
What if I use this design as the center of a 48" x 72" lap quilt?
I've altered it so that it is a little more square.
What if I repeat the design horizontally and part of the design vertically?
I found this design, which uses the same swoosh, in my 9 July 2010 post.
What if I use it, without the shadows, in the border?
What if I extend the border in green?
I also found this in my 9 July 2010 post. It too is made using only the simple swoosh shape.
What if I use it to fill in some of the white space?
I think this makes a wonderful quilt design. All it needs now is some quilting in the open white spaces. But not today.

WOW!
ReplyDeleteIt is always worth going back and having another look at a design .... this one paid off big time!
The same shape could be incorporated into the quilting design too, though I would include some straight lines and some stippling too.

ReplyDeleteYou are right. The swoosh could be used as the basis of a quilting design, or rather, a whole series of designs. I'll have to experiment with that one of these days.
