Starting with these two blocks, Snowball and Drunkard's path, I want to see what motifs I can create by combining them.

This quilt top is one of the ones that I designed by modifying a Sawtooth Star. You can find it in my 31 October 2010 post.

My wife liked it enough to sew it. Now I have to design quilting for it.

I've decided to play with different tones to see how they affect the patterns I create using a Clay's Choice block.

Once upon a time, 21 September 2010 to be exact, I decided this border was too heavy for this center. I abandoned the border and went looking for one that was more in scale with the center.

But, what if I abandon the center and go looking for one that is more in keeping with the scale of the border?

These 2 motifs are made using only Nine Patch blocks and Drunkard's Path blocks.

Piecing

Yesterday I showed you this lettering and complained that it was inconsistant and therefore badly designed in terms of appearance.

Today I'm going to show you how it was pieced and complain about that too.

I found the first USA in a quilt magazine some years ago. It was part of a patriotic quilt.

It is inconsistent. The U is bottom heavy. The S is Fat. The A is top heavy and feels short. All three letters could be from different alphabets.

Nine Patch & Drunkard's Path

I thought it might be interesting to mix Nine Patch blocks with Drunkard's Path blocks. I am going to play with that idea and see what sort of motifs I can develop. Some other day I'll try designing quilts from those motifs.

This tessellation comes from a recent post (27 November 2010). It needs more color than just blue and white.
