Applique

Friendship Star Quilt

This quilt top comes from my 7 September 2010 post, where I said I thought it was a good start to an applique quilt.

Today I'm adding the applique.

I decided on a floral theme. I also decided to match the flower colors to the quadrant border by using a lighter version of the border color.

When I designed the flowers in the second quadrant I realized that the flowers in the first were rather stiff and formal.

I redesigned the flowers in the first quadrant so that they are more organic, more free flowing.  That's how I want all the flowers to be.

None of these flowers is meant to depict a real flower. All of them are out of my imagination but they try to mimic the characteristics of real flowers.

All these flowers can be made using the feather die for the Go fabric cutter.

If you think you could have fun playing with this idea, then you should. I think that would be great.

I enjoy watching the design process evolve too. It's kind of like watching a movie. And I never know how it's going to turn out. I never know if I'm going to be disappointed or elated.
