Applique

I want to see what sort of applique designs I can make by repeating this simple shape and by asking what if...?, what if...?, what if...?

The design possibilities using this simple shape are endless. I just wish I knew what to call this shape. Any suggestions?

  1. When all else fails I refer to a book of names intended for babies, or an atlas!
It is a very versatile shape so how about Vera, or perhaps Vernon if its a boy!

Cute names. I like your method of picking names.

When I need a name for a quilt I've made,I often go to my map of Alberta and chose the name of a town. When I need a name for an alphabet I've designed, I go to my map of Calgary.

However, in this case, I am looking for something a little more generic like circle, or square, or half-moon, or tear-drop, or sickle.

Now that I think of it, what I am really looking for is not a name but a description. How can I describe this shape in three words or less?

  3. It looks like half of a quotation mark, so you could call it "Half Quote" or "Quote me" or something like that??

    Great design work!

I like your idea. I can refer to it as a single quotation mark. Cool.

  5. The first thing that came to my mind was swoosh. And I like the shape! I like how if you turn it facing in, it's smooth, and if you turn it facing out, it's spiky.

Now that you mention it, it is a bit like the Nike swoosh - only chubbier, and not as long.

Since sometimes it's smooth and sometimes it's spiky, perhaps I should call it a two-faced swoosh.
