Playing with Colors

Balkan Puzzle

I want to change the colors on this Balkan Puzzle block and see if I can create a 3D effect by casting virtual shadows.
What if I remove all the color so that I have an outline block?

What if I assume a light source in the upper left corner?
The areas in the top left facing into the light will be the lightest in color.
The areas directly behind these, the ones on the bottom right, will be in shadow and therefore the darkest in color.
The areas on the bottom left will be the second lightest.
The areas on the top right will be the second darkest.
What if I combine 4 of this new Balkan Puzzle block?

Coloring it like this changes it completely. It is no longer a Balkan Puzzle block. It is a new block and I like it.

  1. I like the shadow pinwheel in the middle too.

The pinwheel in the center is meant to be a surprise. The theory is that you will notice the 3D diamonds first because the are bold and obvious but that after awhile you will notice the subtle pinwheel in the center.

My problem when I do something like this is what to call the block. I can't call it Balkan Puzzle anymore. So what do I call it?
