Playing with Blocks

Wonky Shoo Fly

Change the grid dimensions on a regular Shoo Fly block and you get this wonky Shoo Fly block.  (See 4 March 2010)
What if I color the wonky Shoo Fly block, starting with dark green in one corner and shading to light green in the opposite corner?
What if I combine 4 wonky Shoo Fly blocks with their light green corners together?

I get this square pattern.
What if I combine 4 wonky Shoo Fly blocks with their dark green corners together?

I get this circular pattern.
What if I combine 4 wonky Shoo Fly blocks with their medium green corners together?

There are 2 medium green corners. One gives me a pinwheel that spins clockwise; the other a pinwheel that spins counterclockwise.

What if I combine the square pattern and the circular pattern to create a checkerboard pattern?

It's hard to believe that this was made by repeating one wonky Shoo Fly block 36 times.

  2. Wayne,

    Love the wonky Shoo Fly!

This is one I would love to see made up, would even be tempted myself if I didn't have quite so many UFOs and virtual designs.

The best bit is where the circle flows into the square.

When I look at those circles overlapping the squares, my first thought is inset seams and a lot of trouble. The truth, however, is just the opposite
